On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Full elections have three phases and an optional fourth phase (Primary):

  1. Question Collection
  2. Nomination
  3. Primary
  4. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Why me?

  • The first time I watched an SE election unfold, I remember someone saying that moderators are "human exception handlers". That's how I see a mod's duty: to solve issues that the system can't deal with.
  • I'm a regular user of the SE network for 7 years. I have 14k reputation total, having 1k+ rep on 4 distinct communities, which IMHO shows some commitment and a general understanding of how SE's communities work.
  • I joined Portuguese SE during it's proposal (before it was launched) and I'm the 13th user by reputation and 16th on activity, which is not outsanding, but not that bad too.
  • I can invest 10-15 minutes every weekday (more if needed) to moderate the site, which given our current activity should be enough.
  • I'm the top reviewer on 4 out of 6 review queues (2nd on the other 2), so I'm already involved in the "cleaning up" part of the moderation.

Why not me?

  • I've never been a mod in any Stack Exchange site, I'll learn my daily chores by doing them
  • I'm not that active on Meta, mostly because there is not much activity anyway, but surely will need to improve

I'm trowing my hat in the ring because I want to contribute, including to the success of this election.

I'd strive to keep the interactions on the site polite and tolerant, and I support SE's light-handed approach to moderation.

Why me:

  • I like this site a lot and have been doing my best to help it grow and improve
  • I have been contributing substantially to reviewing (top 4 at all but one review queue) and guiding newcomers (e.g., here and here)
  • I'm very present, 5+ days/week and answering ~25% of the questions since I joined (Jan 2018)
  • I'm very active in Meta as well, posting about 1/4 of its posts (11/37)
  • I wholeheartily agree with SE's policy of "Be nice and friendly."

Why not me:

  • no experience as a community moderator
  • not an expert in Portuguese (but an interested native speaker who's committed to improving)
  • not as many votes cast (<10% of PSE's ~5k posts), but plan to improve on that

This election is over.
